A portrait of Saint Sebastian, one of the most often painted saints in Western art. He is depicted in profile with his eyes closed and face lifted, his head framed by a gold halo against a deep vermilion ground. Most paintings of Sebastian show his martyrdom by arrows; I've chose to leave the arrows out and show a quiet, inward moment instead. It keeps the stillness of devotional painting but gives it a modern feel.
